AMD Has New Ryzen CPUs Promising to Directly Compete With Intel

When we think of the best processors, our minds go straight to Intel. It’s just the way it is, kind of like how Dell makes some of the best laptops in the world. But for consumers to start believing in another product, the opposition must step up to the plate. Often times, the only way to truly show what they (the underdogs) are capable of is to make something truly competitive, in both specs and price. That’s what AMD has done with its Ryzen line of CPUs, a family said to directly compete with Intel’s chips, at long last.

After AMD endorsing itself as offering some highly-anticipated gems, the biggest deal could be how Intel reacts to AMD’s pricing structure. Most believe it could result in a huge blow to Intel, causing the tech giant some serious worry, and here’s why. The brand new Ryzen family is AMD’s latest generation of desktop processors. Ultimately headed straight for the gold, these chips have arrived to conquer and progress the company’s standing, as its last gen of chips were a disappointment, mainly aimed at low-end computers (developing new CPUs, but relegating them to low-end computers didn’t actually call for a victory).

To the point. These three AMD Ryzen CPUs gained a 52 percent boost in instructions per cycle (IPC) over the last gen. In doing this, they are more or less properly put on the same turf as Intel, which is a smart way to get noticed. The high-end Ryzen 7 1700 holds 8 cores and a base clock of 3.0GHz/ Turbo 3.7GHz, in line first to ship out to customers, priced at $329. Then there’s the Ryzen 7 1700 X, and at $399, will hold 8 cores and a base clock of 3.8GHz, with the “X” marking its automatic XFR overclocking- based on the CPU cooling system used for maximizing performance levels.

Finally, offering clock levels at 3.6GHz/4.0GHz Turbo, is the highest-end 8-core Ryzen 7 1800X, priced at $499, and the most comparable to Intel’s $1,050 i7-6900K. This is where that competitive pricing comes in, something very vital in AMD making the mark they want to. Plus, the 1800X apparently ties with the i7-6900K single-threaded benchmark tests, and on multi-threaded tests, beats Intel!

All of this means AMD is doing its very best to show up Intel, and it very well could with pricing like that (that’s a 54 percent undercut, by the way). Additionally, the Ryzen CPU series will have more family members soon, with just the first three set to release on March 2nd as a “hard launch”. However, preorders are being taken now, and AMD promises to not only have plenty of stock ready to meet powerful demands, but “a ton” of motherboard options at launch.

Razer Just Added a 4K Display and Kaby Lake CPU to Its Blade Gaming Laptop

Razer Just Added a 4K Display and Kaby Lake CPU to Its Blade Gaming Laptop

It’s hard to have a conversation about PC gaming or accessories without mentioning one of the many stellar components offered by Razer. Their Chroma lighting schemes are unlike anything else on the market, and they have made a name for themselves by offering top-rated, stutter-free graphics on a wide range of desktop and mobile platforms that is virtually untouchable. What’s more, they are perpetually ahead of each trend and technological development, never satisfied to merely wait out the next installment of a product or device before outfitting it with a massive upgrade. And the latest upgrade to their ultra-high performing 14-inch laptop, the Blade, packs a double punch. Razer announced just last month that the crowd-favorite portable gaming rig would now come with a stunning 4K display option, and Intel’s state-of-the-art seventh generation Kaby Lake processors.

Even before the most recent update, the Razer was already a beast of a machine, and widely lauded as the best performing gaming laptop the average human could buy. Its new configuration will now boast a base frequency of 2.8GHz, which can be amped all the way up to 3.8GHz, courtesy of its new Intel Core i7-7700HG quad-core processor. The laptop’s already powerful display is still backed by NVIDIA’s Pascal graphics architecture, thanks to a GTX 1060 GPU with 6GB of DDR5 VRAM. As for storage, users may opt for PCle M.2 SSDs available in either 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB configurations. And on top of all that, a Thunderbolt 3 port and three USB 3.0 ports offer endless possibilities for external storage options. Like its predecessor, the new Razer Blade also comes with 16GB of 2400MHz DDR4 memory in every model’s configuration. And let’s not forget that new display…

A full HD panel will come standard on the newest Razer Blade, and for the first time on any of their 14-inch models, will also have the option to upgrade a 4K UHD touchscreen display. Perhaps the most impressive feat of all, though, is how small, light, and compact this super-powered little laptop remains, even with the addition of souped-up processors and killer display options. Despite being “more powerful and more efficient than last year’s model,” Razer says that the new Blade is only 0.70 inches thick, and each configuration weighs in at just over four pounds (specifically, 4.1 pounds for the full HD model, and 4.3 pounds with a 4K screen). And it’s no small improvement, either. In fact, Razer claims that the newest Blade achieves “double-digit increases in productivity benchmarks” and delivers “the best frame rates available in an ultra-thin laptop.” There are, of course, some cons – but you probably guessed those as well. As with any high-powered gaming rig, you’re going to have to sacrifice a chunk of your gaming budget, and probably some battery life.

The Full HD model already went on sale last week and has a starting price of $1,899. It’s safe to say when the 4K models arrive in April 2017, you’ll be looking at forking over a lot more to get your hands on one of those.

Samsung Made a 2-In-1 Tablet PC, and It’s Pretty Great

Samsung Made a 2-In-1 Tablet PC, and It’s Pretty Great

Wait, a new lil’ Samsung tablet running Windows 10 is coming? Oh it’s here? What, it’s probably the latest tablet that will make you think twice about even buying a new laptop? It’s actually kinda funny, isn’t it, considering another machine to be as capable to act as a replacement for the laptop? Yes, well, things change quickly in the world of tech. Until now, the notion has always been configured as a “desktop replacement”, since their size and platforms were the things to beat. That being said, we do know tablets have been increasingly well-suited with the latest hardware and display quality, so all you really need is a keyboard to smack on, and you’ve got a fully-functioning computer.

So what we have here is the 12-inch Samsung Galaxy Book! It is offered in a teeny 10-inch variant as well, but let’s stick with the 12-inch iteration to discuss the ins and outs of this thing. Nope, it’s not on par with the Surface Pro 4 from Microsoft, nothing is, but excitingly enough, it’s closest match in terms of ideology is, in fact, the beloved Pro 4. It’s like saying no, it’s not Tangerine Dream by Victoria’s Secret, but it’s the only product that comes close (obviously, I must disclose that I just made up the Tangerine Dream brand, and it’s what you call a metaphor, folks!).

So is it any good? Well, let’s compare it to what else is out there! Both sizes are come with a keyboard case and stylus, which is pretty much on par with common 2-in-1 tablet PCs today (except the many of these fun pens are sold separately), yet the Galaxy Book 12-inch iteration is a good model to set the best example. For one, it’s “redesigned” S Pen stylus has been said to “feel like a 0.7mm rollerball” (wow, I haven’t thought of my old favorite rollerball pens in a while, but I do remember how much fun they make drawing and writing!). Okay the S Pen sounds great, why didn’t we start with dimensions (um, because every report discusses it quite a bit)? Ahem, while dimensions include an 11.47 x 7.87 x 0.29 inch body and a weight of 1.66 pounds, it settles in nicely with a 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution, and a PPI of 216.

More specs. Said to run on 10.5 hours of battery life without a charge, there are no full-sized USB ports, like the highly comparable Lenovo MIIx 510, or Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12. There’s just a pair of USB Type-C ports for peripherals. These Galaxy Book models also have a built-in adjustable keyboard, which is thin as can be while appearing comfortable. Back to the stylus for comparisons sake, Samsung’s got the up on this one, guys, because as far as Acer and Lenovo go, Samsung’s Galaxy Book is the only option that comes with the stylus as part of the price, rather than having to purchase separately.

It’s most definitely a lovely laptop – most certainly a legitimate addition to the others who have their sights set on competing with the Microsoft Surface Book (and we know there’s a lot these days). Although we don’t know pricing or release dates, it’s Samsung, and Samsung doesn’t joke around. Needless to say, the company does things to take a step forward above the rest, even if it means most of its models are priced on the high side (and this is on par with competitors). What can we say, it’s seemingly natural at the moment to find the latest trend in computing to prevail as 2-in-1 tablet PCs. Yep, we’re back on little and cute, gorgeous and functional. Have fun finding yours.
